Businessman celebrating a successful year 2015 anticipating comiThe team at Park IP Translations attended a number of events in 2015, engaging with clients, colleagues and fellow professionals in the IP world. Many events covered relevant segments of the global legal and IP sector, allowing Park legal translation experts to share experiences and best practices for planning and managing a global IP portfolio.

Here our top conference and event highlights from 2015:

ANNUAL GLOBAL PATENT CONGRESS, COPENHAGAN, DENMARK

Park IP presented and exhibited at the Annual Global Patent Congress, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Team members from Park IP were present to provide advice to attendees on the importance of language services in the legal and patent world. Senior Director of Sales Strategy at Park IP, Mathew Sekac, delivered his presentation, “What Global Patent Departments Can Learn from the AIA’s Foreign Filing Aftershock.”

Many conversations in 2015 centred on the AIA aftershock; where a surge in foreign filings submitted to meet the 30 month deadline for PCT National Phase Entry after changes to the America Invents Act (AIA), led to unprecedented demand in legal translation services. The AIA foreign filing aftershock was the single most influential and game-changing event in our industry in recent times. Park IP were able to fully prepare clients, ensuring the appropriate legal translators were in place to fulfill any foreign filing requirements required to manage global patent portfolios. As a result of the AIA aftershock, Park IP now works with many clients to strategically plan any global patent activity, providing advice to clients should a similar event occur in the future. Matthew Sekac’s presentation stimulated new ways of thinking for corporate and law firms who have large global patent portfolios.

BIO INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION, PENNSYLVANIA, USA

Park IP exhibited at the BIO International Convention in Pennsylvania. This is an excellent event, specifically targeted at the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Park IP’s attendance at this event was significant as it is important for anyone working in this global industry to fully understand the complexity of translating any legal or related material for global use and acceptance. Content for patent documentation and applications for the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry is complex. Outsourcing legal translation and any foreign patent filing to language experts will protect patent asset in foreign markets and prevent any legal action at a later date.
